The Modern Witterings Beach Retreat

As part of Randell Design Group’s dream to key service, we provided architecture, interior design and construction management to create this fantastic new beach home to replace a structure on a tight site that was no longer fit for purpose. We worked smartly to create a design that maximised every square metre of the plot. Our brief was to provide four bedrooms and space for working and entertaining both inside and out (in all weather!) while maximising light and views of the sea. Sustainability was an integral part of the concept, and we achieved this through construction methods, photovoltaics, mechanical systems and passive design. Zinc, timber and brick enhance the design.

Interiors are reflective of the clients’ love of Scandinavian design and Mid-Century Modern architecture, with quirky features and nods to the 1970s. It’s a family home, but adult spaces have been designated including an upstairs snug and cheeky hidden bar. Every space works hard and allows for social gatherings for family and friends. Clever joinery plays a key role in the design, with useful spaces, storage and hidden surprises around every corner. The resulting design is classic, modern and timeless with the bold use of colour and materials completely embodying our clients’ personalities and excellent taste.
