A contemporary new build in a heritage context
The dream
To build a modern family home that respects nature and location.
The details
We love how the building responds to the historic context and urban landscape.
Designed with the listed tree in mind
This contemporary new build is a little architectural gem in the popular neighbourhood of Summersdale in Chichester. Our mission was to design this unique timber-framed family home and one-bedroom annex around a protected tree and heritage barrack wall which made for a fun design process! We think it will be a great contemporary asset to the local area.
Throughout the internal open plan, windows and rooflights have been carefully positioned to optimise natural daylight and provide key views to the landscape and the tree canopy. The material palette of zinc and grey brick has been sensitively chosen to respond to local materials and the hues of the flint wall.

“This was an exciting project, with the design directly deriving from the local historic urban context, creating a contemporary dwelling that incorporates the protected tree as a connecting space between the two volumes.”
