A laid back second home for a surf-loving family
The dream
To create a relaxed laid-back holiday home for a fun-loving family with interiors that echo its coastal location in the Witterings
The details
We love the black cladding and concrete interiors, the views from the mezzanine study space and the sunlight bathed interiors
Designed with the surf and fun in mind
We worked closely with our clients to replace a tired chalet bungalow with a modern home close to the beach in West Wittering. This resulted in a laid-back second home, perfectly arranged for making the most of coastal living and water sports. The black cladding and articulated black zinc dormer are prominent features of this unique beachside retreat. The linked open plan ground floor kitchen and dining room, and the first floor living room provide generous entertainment spaces, while the first-floor mezzanine space takes advantage of the spectacular sea views.
The house incorporates an array of textures from the rough sawn black larch cladding to the board-formed concrete walls, to the smooth polished concrete floors. The large conservatory to the rear of the property allows the north facing kitchen and dining area to be flooded with natural light. We offered a complete design service for this property and then worked alongside the home’s builders, King & Drury, to deliver a stunning contemporary coastal home. The landscape was expertly delivered by Andy Stedman, resulting in gardens and exterior entertainment spaces that have only got better from the sun, salt, and wind from the home’s coastal location in West Sussex.
