Livingetc is one of the UK’s leading voices in contemporary design, known for spotlighting inspiring projects that blend creativity, functionality, and lifestyle. In this issue, the editors turned their focus outdoors, gathering expert insights on flooring — an often-overlooked element that has the power to transform gardens, terraces, and coastal retreats into stylish and inviting living spaces.

Our West Wittering project

Randell Design Group was recognised for our coastal project in West Wittering, where we designed using a mix of materials and clever zoning to create outdoor spaces that feel both harmonious and full of character.

The article by Amy Moorea Wong, “Outdoor flooring: the experts on what you need to know before investing in this key feature,” highlighted how our team carefully blended a variety of flooring approaches to suit different areas of the home. The garden flooring design included informal steppingstones and gravel that contrasted beautifully with the angular form of the building. Materials included:

Blending design and lifestyle

At Randell Design Group, we believe outdoor spaces should be more than just an extension of the home — they should feel like living areas in their own right. Flooring plays a crucial role in shaping how people experience a garden or terrace, helping to define zones for dining, entertaining, and relaxation.

As Livingetc notes in their feature, material choice and layout are key to achieving longevity, function, and beauty. Our approach balances these practical requirements with a focus on creating spaces that encourage connection — with the outdoors, with architecture, and with one another.

A grateful acknowledgement

We are honoured to be included among talented designers in Livingetc. Being recognised for our design reinforces our commitment to creating homes that are both thoughtfully designed and deeply lived in.
