We are delighted to announce that we have won a 2019 Sussex Heritage Trust Award! Randell Design Group, in collaboration with King & Drury Construction, won the prestigious award for the Mid-Scale Residential category, which was sponsored by The Hans and Märit Rausing Charitable Trust. The Awards are designed to highlight excellence in architecture and conservation work in Sussex, representing the highest quality new build, conservation and rejuvenation projects.

This year’s Sussex Heritage Trust Award was won for Orchard Barns, an executive development of four houses set within the Southdown’s National Park. We used a traditionally inspired pallet of external finishes and a mix of house types to help the development blend in with the agricultural surroundings. The homes were developed in a sensitive manner appropriate for the historical and topographical setting, maintaining the architectural language of a converted courtyard farmstead. One property emulates a large threshing barn, one a granary and the single storey connecting element between the two barns is modelled on a stable. Brick and larch cladding were used on all the buildings.

“An o’all tour de force imaginative design both internal and external. Good quality materials.”
