Winner of Sussex Heritage Trust Award 2023

We were very pleased to win a Sussex Heritage Trust Award for Small Scale Residential at this summer’s award ceremony for our South Downs Cottage project. The Sussex Heritage Trust is a registered charity established in 1977 to preserve, improve and encourage the appreciation of the architectural and natural landscape of Sussex. Each year their awards recognise and reward the highest quality conservation, restoration and good design of newly built projects while encouraging the use of traditional skills and crafts.

South Downs Cottage was an architectural and interior design project undertaken by our director Brid Carr for homeowners Amanda and Craig Talbot near Chichester, West Sussex. It involved the full renovation of two original Georgian estate cottages, which are understood to date back to 1795. The buildings were restored to their original flint glory and extended in a contemporary yet sensitive way to take full advantage of the rural location and views. The overall design incorporates two glass extensions at both ends of the home, creating a large new kitchen and annex with sauna.

“Craig & I were delighted to be nominated for a Sussex Heritage Award by Randell Design Group, and were thrilled to win! We are pleased that our home has been recognised by Sussex Heritage Trust for both the restoration work and for the modern extensions that make the most of the natural light and views. We loved working with Brid and all the talented people involved in bringing this project to life.”
